Q: Can you put a 4 way wedge on? by Pete from Massachusetts on August 28, 2011
A: Ariens doesn't make a 4-way wedge at this time; using another brand would void your warranty.
Another thing to consider: most 4-way wedges are meant for units where a ram pushes the wood into the splitting head.
The 917001 pushes the splitting head into a stop plate. Once you put the unit into the vertical position, the 4-way would fall off. by Mike, Product Expert
Q: hey mike i own an ariens 27 ton log splitter. and i am having a problem with the hydrau- lic filter. it keeps on loosening up and leaks.there is really no way to tighten the filter to the hydraulic tank. any suggestions. thanks tony by Tony Meskauskas from Massachusetts on June 05, 2011
A: The best advice I can give is to contact Ariens. Maybe they have a quick fix for you. It could be as simple as putting a new filter on the splitter. Here is there number. 920-756-4688
This is a sturdy, reliable splitter, much like our Good and Best selections- but here's what set's it apart.
First of all, this can be towed on public roads, so you can go where the wood is. If your state requires DOT lighting and/or license plate holder you can add those separately.
Second is the Subaru engine- it is strong and reliable. The whole unit is covered by a 2 year factory warranty.
Next, this splitter can be run in the normal, horizontal position; the larger tires puts it at a comfortable height. But when you get those big chunks of trunk, don't even try to lift it- just latch the beam into the horizontal position and roll the log into place.

Great splitter
I have used a lot of wood splitters, and this is a good one.
I did my homework on them for a while before I bought one. Sweet little Subaru power plant that starts easy, fairly quiet and does not even groan on big knotty wood. Sips fuel like a Honda.
I will say this, when you buy it, spent the money and buy the table kit for 60 bucks (it is rugged) and buy the cradle kit for another 39 or whatever it is. Its a must. Probably should be included with the splitter, at least the cradle but oh well.

I have been splitting wood for 35 years. Mostly oak 15 to 18 inches in length. I recently purchased an Ariens 27 ton splitter and had the dealer install the cradle kit.
I give the machine high marks however the cradle is totally inadequate for what I do. It's too narrow and too short to be effective. Larger diameter wood tips right off the side and the returning wedge drags wood off the front of the cradle.
I haven't decided yet how to fix it but I'm thinkin at least one side will have to be made wider and longer.

Great Splitter, Fuzzy Price
I just got my splitter assembled and have split my first load of firewood. All my expectations were exceeded!
My only reservation is the price of the unit which on the website now nets out to $1,749 after a discount and rebate that were not available when I paid $1,849 less than a month ago. What gives with that?
LSD RESPONDS: We are happy to explain! Sometimes a vendor will offer a better price to us on their merchandise for a limited period of time, and we pass the savings along to our customer- also for that limited period of time. Once our cost goes back up, so does the price to our customers.
The reasons for the discount vary- launching a new product line, making room for new merchandise... you get the idea. Once the manufacturer stops their promotion, everything goes back to normal.
If a promotion goes into effect and your order hasn't yet shipped, it should qualify for the lower price. Just give us a call and we'll be glad to check.

This splitter so far is great
I have only split maybe 2 cords but it handles every piece with ease, even the ones that were a complete knot.
The engine starts every time with no problems, and it uses very little fuel. I recommend this splitter for anyone who burns 4 or 5 cords a year.

Excellent Wood splitter
I have already split about 3 cords and it's as good a wood splitter as I have ever used.
Great engine and strong hydraulics. Easy to start with a perfect working height.
I would highly recommend this unit so far.

Love my Log splitter
Only had one little problem with a small hydraulic leak where the filter fitting was not tight in the tank.
So far I have split two cords of wood, including some very large logs- and the splitter works great.
