I recently purchased the 34 Ton model, it arrived well crated and more assembled than I expected. I wisely opted for the drop gate shipping as the unit weighs more than six hundred pounds.
It is well made, the fit and finish are very good, and well engineered to boot. The engine location up front protects it from damage, and I like the castering front wheel. It also has a stabilizer leg located between the wheels to anchor it solidly in place.
I like the features of the Subaru engine which include throttle, choke, fuel shut-off, and on/off switch which allow you to warm up and cool down the engine between splitting cycles, further enhancing engine longevity.
The only negative features I have found are that the splitting wedge had a flat 1/8" edge, upon arrival, which I sharpened to a point which allows for better splitting penetration with less hydraulic effort. I aslo ordered a log cradle kit, which I recommend, but it needs to extend outward further because larger logs upon splitting will roll over the sides of the cradle and impact the fenders ( I refer to the engine location reference above).
Overall I am very pleased with this product, and Log Splitters Direct has been a very good company to do business with. The 27 Ton model would be fine for most applications, But, If you need to split tough gnarly hardwood timber (as I do) this model is well worth your investment dollars, and it's Made In America!
