What is your recommendation for 30 ton or
greater log splitter

A: Honda is the better engine.

My recommendation would be the Iron and Oak Ez Split 34 ton, witht eh Honda engine.

Most folks think of Ariens as a manufacturer of high quality lawn & snow equipment. Well, they are- and they make a fine log splitter, too. These are made right here in the USA, with the same attention to detail and durability.

The Subaru engine starts easily and runs quietly, and sits at the front of the beam. That way it is protected from dropped logs, and balances the unit so it tows smoothly.

A nice feature are the controls that can be operated from either side of the splitter. You will save steps and time as you build up your woodpile.

Like the other splitters in this class, it switches easily from horizontal to vertical splitting mode- letting you take on thick trunks without needing a winch to lift them.

I recently purchased the 34 Ton model, it arrived well crated and more assembled than I expected. I wisely opted for the drop gate shipping as the unit weighs more than six hundred pounds.

It is well made, the fit and finish are very good, and well engineered to boot. The engine location up front protects it from damage, and I like the castering front wheel. It also has a stabilizer leg located between the wheels to anchor it solidly in place.
