Q: What is the hydraulic oil capacity (initial fill) on the Earthquake 27 ton log splitter? by Mark from Arkansas on May 21, 2011
A: 5 Gallons by Mike, Product Expert
Q: What kind of hydraulic fluid does the Earthquake 27 Ton log splitter use? by Donald from Mississippi on May 13, 2011
A: The hydraulic reservoir should be filled with an SAE 30 hydraulic oil (if temperature will be above 50º Fahrenheit when operating unit) and SAE 20 hydraulic oil (if temperature will be between 32º Fahrenheit and 50º Fahrenheit). If hydraulic oil is difficult to obtain, automatic transmission fluid can be substituted and should be used instead of hydraulic oil when temperatures are below 32º Fahrenheit. DO NOT mix transmission fluid with hydraulic oil. Use only clean oil and take care to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic reservoir by Mike, Product Expert

TOTALLY HAPPY WITH LOG SPLITTER
Just Want to Say I'M Totally Happy With My Earthquake W2700b Logsplitter.
the Assembly Was Relatively Easy. There Were Two of Us Assembling It But I Believe One Person Could Do It. Everything Went Together as Per Instructions.
It Took Exactly 5 Gals. of Hydraulic Oil to Fill Reservoir.
I'M Glad I Went to the 27 Ton Splitter Because Some of the Wood I Was Splitting Had Some Pretty Good Knots in It and It Was Working to Get Through Some of the Knots.
On a Scale of 10 So Far I Would Give It a 10. I'Ll Just Have to Wait and See How It Holds Up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well designed
This is a heavy constructed, well designed wood splitter. It has been able to split any kind of wood I have wanted to split.
Above all is the price. All of the wood splitters I have looked at in this category were half again as much.
I can't say anything bad about this log splitter.

Very Pleased
I just got my Earthquake W2700B, put it together in less than an hour by myself.
The first logs I put thru it were mesquite knots and it never even hesitated.
The next test was juniper stumps, roots and all, the splitter took them in stride.
I am very pleased with this splitter.

From out of the crate to splitting logs in 3 hours!
I got my 27 ton Earthquake delivered today, and besides my buddy stopping by on his lunch hour to help me lift it out of the crate, I put the rest of it together by myself, and was splitting logs in 3 hours.
No leaks, and the motor started on the first pull. I couldn't believe it myself...I'm very happy with it so far.

Good Machine
I recently purchased a Earthquake splitter 27 ton. Fairly easy to assemble, two people are needed to lift a few of the pieces. Very heavy and sturdy machine.
I was missing the oil cap (dipstick) for the engine, called and they sent me the wrong part, so I stole one from my snow blower. Also the manual on the engine didn't reflect the actual engine that is for the splitter. Doesn't say anywhere in any manual how much oil the engine holds (thank god for the interenet= 20oz.).
Split about 5 cords of some really big maple, and it works great! Overall the machine itself is solid! I would recommend it.

"TWO TRUCK LOADS THE FIRST WEEKEND"
My brother and I bought this together in an effort to become more independent in our firewood supply.
Neither one of us has ever owned or used a splitter before. I used all the info. and suggestions off of Log Splitters Direct.com to decide on my purchase of the W2700B.
Very heavy, well made and only took us about 30 min to put together. We have split some hardwood logs almost 1.5' in diameter and have had no problems thus far.
The engine will strain a little on the big ones, but the ram just keeps on coming. SO FAR SO GOOD... ONLY TIME WILL TELL???

Working well so far
It's very heavy duty compared to the Big Box store's models and no taxes. Prices were reasonable.
Cuts through my stuborn Hickory like nothing. Very heavy to move but I see that as a good thing.
Some assembly required.

Well Worth The Money!
I purchased this splitter through LogSplittersDirect.com and received it today. Two of us had it assembled and operating in less than 2 hours.
It arrived in a fully enclosed wooden crate. Assembly instructions were available on the Internet, as well as in the manual provided. We had taken the time to read the entire manual long before the splitter arrived, so we were well prepared for the project when the unit arrived.
The two of us split and stacked about a full cord of wood in an hour. I was impressed with the speed, power, and the easy-starting Briggs and Stratton 250 cc engine.
The logs we split were of the less-than-desirable type - full of large knots, Ys, and angled cuts. The wood was free to us, so we couldn't expect to have choice of the best logs. However, it was simply impossible to split this wood with a maul. We needed a splitter and the Earthquake 27 ton model was just the ticket.
We strained the motor a few times, but it never quit. It split every log we threw at it.......some as big as 18" in diameter. I'm very happy with the quality of the welds, the engine, and the massive 4.5" hydraulic cylinder. It's everything I had hoped for in a log splitter.
Many thanks to the good folks at LogSplittersDirect.com for their assistance in getting this to me so quickly. It arrived at the house exactly a week after placing the order. The driver called me ahead of time to arrange for delivery, and we used our little Kubota tractor to unload it from the semi-truck.
Shipping was free, and there were no sales tax charges. I don't often get service like that, even when I pay for it!

Well built, well designed log splitter.
The unit comes in a wood crate, generally well packaged. I assembled the unit with the help of a hoist to lift and position the splitting rail onto the trailer section.
In the absence of a hoist, two people can handle moving the rail into position. I set the splitter into the vertical position and manually lifted the massive cylinder into its mounting holes. You need a 27mm or 1 1/16" deep well socket with a long extension to tighten the mounting nuts.
The hydraulic fluid tank hold almost 5 gallons, and the B&S engine takes less than a quart of 10-30 oil..
I was surprised how easy the pull is to start the engine, and that it took only one pull to start the engine. The ram ran smoothly and split anything we loaded into it. There is nothing in the way of operating the splitter. The side guards are welded on and very well built.
After splitting about 3 ricks of wood, I can say that I would not trade this unit for anything else. It operated flawlessly, and I highly recommend it.
