1 Question
Q: gas or electric pro/con each?
4 way fit on all? Need minimum hp for 4way?
I am splitting oak from 12" to 24" in my back woods and yard 4 - 5 times a season
I like the vert/horiz w/4way
What would you recommend? by Jack Radde from Michigan on April 09, 2011
A: Thank you for your inquiry. Gas units you would get more power/torque from. There is more maintenance with a gas than a electric. With the RamSplitter brand log splitters, the 4-way wedged only work for those units. There are specific tonnages for the wedges depending on which unit is selected. With the diameter of wood you would be splitting, I would go with the RamSplitter HV20-4 and the 20ton 4-way wedge. by Mike, Product Expert

Poor instructions, rave review
Assembly instructions are the most incomplete and poor I've ever encountered. It doesn't seem to make sense that the owner/company would place so much emphasis on a quality product and not carry it through with complete and accurate instructions. Examples include the following:
-Instructs not to tighten bolts when assembling the "hitch" to the "tank" until beam is installed. Deosn't make any sense and never says exactly when to tighten.
-No instructions on lever assembly and doesn't mention the hitch support at all and which pin to use.
-Illistrations are a very poor example for steps and really not relevant or useful.
- Never covers what the main quick release pin is for, it's not even mentioned.
- Doesn't mention intstallation of the hose from the tank to the pump and the associated clamps.
-Completely omits the shorter hydraulic hose and the removal of the red plasic cap on the Ram.
Basically the assembly instruction, in my opinion, are a complete failure, which is a shame for such a seemingly good product. Why would anyone put forth such an effort and neglect proper instructions?? This product should only be sold and assembled by an authorized dealer with such poor assembly instructions. With proper instructions, there's no reason why the "average Joe" couldn't easily and properly put this unit together. As is, it's a scary proposition at best. My rating reflects the poor instructions, otherwise I don't see any reason to give this product anything but rave reviews.

Good Product, Poor Assmbly Intructions
Assembly instructions were very poor. Did not include making all hose connections. I attempted calling Ramsplitter using two numbers on assembly and operating instructions - no answer on one and left a message on the other and no one returned the call.
I resolved the issue on my own and the splitter is operational and works great.

Built tough in the US of A!
Ramsplitter builds all of their units in Rockford, Illinois out of top quality components.
Take a look at the video to see how a 4 way wedge on a 16 ton model rips through a large log.
This is one of their smaller log splitters- imagine how fast your woodpile would grow with a 4 way wedge on a 30 ton unit!
Add the log cradles so you don't have to spend the day picking the split wood off the ground, and you have a classic example of working smarter, not harder.
Find the Ramsplitter HV16-1 16-Ton Honda-Powered Horizontal / Vertical Gas Log Splitter at Log Splitters Direct. We offer a wide selection of log splitters from Betst, plus a full assortment of log splitter accessories including fuel stabilizer, gas cans, and extension cords.
