I bought a log splitter because of the role I've accepted in my church (as a younger man) of going into the hills and bringing out fire wood for those who cannot get it themselves, and cannot afford $200/cord.
This vertical model is PERFECT for me in numerous capacities. First of all, I don't have room to 'park' a piece of equipment, but I can roll this one into the shed, as it moves around just like a hand truck. Then, I roll it up (ramps) onto the back of the little flatbed pickup I use to haul my logs (I bring sections of log out of the hills and buck them to length when I get to wherever I'm delivering wood to), where I buck and split the wood before it comes off the truck, in one very smooth operation.
Working this way, off the height of the truck bed, is great for saving my back from working off the ground! Also, I appreciate how the work zone is separated from the engine and controls, where split wood won't fall and break something.
The only reason I didn't give this a perfect rating is that the engine that runs the pump is a very basic (i.e. cheap) model, but having gone through a few cords, some of which was probably WAY bigger than this unit was designed for, I am completely pleased (read-what an awesome man toy!), and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.
