WoodEze 7-Ton 2-Speed Horizontal Electric Log Splitter

I got this 7 ton WoodEze in lieu of the Pow'R Kraft that was out of stock, etc. I took it out of the box, read the directions and put it to use right away.

It did everything expected and more. It handled some large gnarly pieces I had previously set aside, however on a few pieces the machine balked and I didn't push it. I set it up on two solid cinder blocks and it did fine. It has already saved me time, and wear and tear on my rotator cuff.

One problem (that doesn't appear to affect the operation) is that the log retaining plates deformed slightly (bent downward and out) as I was splitting logs; it looks like someone hit them with a sledge hammer and dented them. I don't think it is going to affect the operation in the future and the plates seem to be replaceable if necessary.

This is one of the best buys I've made in awhile time will tell how well it holds up - the machine is solid.

So the unfortunate part of this comment is that my splitter started leaking fluid after about 4 months of use... But what a work-horse it has been. I couldn't be happier with the performance.

It's what happened next that prompted me to write this review.

I called WoodEze support and reached Kathy. I was thinking the worst. I figured at a minimum I'd have to send it in for repair at my expense and be without for a long time. After a few basic questions Kathy said "I'll just ship you a replacement". Not only did I receive a new splitter, she sent a bill of lading to ship the defective unit back to then at their expense.

I'd be neglectful in not throwing in a thumbs up to my purchasing experience with Power Equipment Direct, which was also very good.

This whole experience proved to me that Internet commerce can be done with superb integrity.

I bought the unit for making firewood for campfires when out motor-homing. I opened it up upon receipt, followed all the included instructions and started splitting. The unit works perfectly. I am very pleased.

I know the big gasoline models are faster and more powerful, but this unit will more than handle the small amount of wood I plan to keep on hand.

I pushed the unit beyond its specified capacity and it did bog down, but I was able to reposition the log, let the motor run few seconds, then engage it and it cut through just fine. I think the key to properly maintaining the machine is to open/close the vent as instructed and not let it bog down on oversize wood more than three or four seconds without changing something.

I hope someone else finds this helpful.

I got this for Christmas a couple years ago from my wife..... i picked it out...... and used it three, four times at our house in Fla. . This past week I took it up to our cabin in the mountains to restock the fire wood. I cut down a dead standing Red Oak.....dead 1.5 years. Chunked it up to approx 18 _20 inches. The dia. is 10-20 inches. The splitter had very little issue in splitting the wood. The core was still wet on the thicker pieces and went through it on "low" with little effort. I did make a stand to raise it up some. Also I rigged a "deadman" foot switch in place of push button to free up one hand to work the log.

This is our third season using the WoodEze and we couldn't be happier. My wife and I are in our late 60's. With this machine, we can still spilt our own wood, about 2-3 cords for NH winters. Still exceeds our expectations.

Powerful - in 3 years only 4 or 5 logs were too tough. Easily goes through 18" fresh and seasoned Oak and Maple. Splits through tough knots with some effort.

Convenient - pull it out of the shed and split for an hour or two, then put it away until you feel like doing more. Much easier on the body than renting because you don't have to do it all at once.

I badger my wife to help me then she gets into it and won't let me do anything but operate the controls. She is small and I think she feels powerful splitting the big ones, even if I have to help lift them. Its fun!

CONS - It doesn't shift directly into slow if the fast speed doesn't have enough power. You have to completely stop and restart the electric motor. The fast speed doesn't start moving right away. But you can start slow, and as soon as it starts to split, shift to fast speed to finish the stroke in less time.

I've been splitting wood with a 26 ton gas splitter for fifteen years and I needed to replace it. a friend recommended an electric splitter. He said I would like it. I was apprehensive, but decided to try it. I was pleasantly surprised. I split Oak, Maple and some Pine. I've split logs up to 16" in dia. and it did a good job as long as there were no major knots. I had to elevate it 16" to make it more comfortable, but the switch is still a problem. I'm not an electrician, but an optional foot pedal for the switch would be a great improvement. I just bought a meat grinder from Cabela's and they offer an optional foot pedal for the switch, so it must be possible.

Awesome- this log splitter is unbelievable. After watching the video on it I was so impressed I started reading some reviews on it. They were saying how much they liked it and how impressed they were with its splitting capabilities.

The manufacturer states it can split a 20" log 12.5 " inches in diameter and the one review said it was splitting 22' logs with it. So I purchased one and it has performed even better than I expected.

I quickly split all the logs I had up to 12 inches, so Ihad to give it the acid test. I took my wheelbarrow over to my friend's house and took a log about 25 inches in diameter (Hickory) and it split it without a flinch. The motor didn't bog, it just split it- no problem...I'M SOLD!

The 2 speed option is great. I use the fast speed until it stops; then I pull harder on the lever and it splits almost anything. GREAT PRODUCT AND GREAT SERVICE FROM LOG SPLITTERS DIRECT.

Let see, where do I start? After reading Reviews and watching youtube videos, I decided to go with the Woodeze Electric Log Splitter. I didn't want to have to worry about carburetors getting gummed up while not in use. My generator has a gummed up Carburetor and I have to run it in full Choke if I want to use it. Even though I start it every once in a while and let it run.
I ordered the Woodeze and it wasn't long before I got an e-mail confirmation that it was on its way. I was very excited and the anticipation was killing me because I had so much wood to split and had no splitter.

I got a call from the carrier to see when I would be home so they could deliver it and we made an appointment for Friday. Well on Thursday, the truck driver called to tell me he was on my street to deliver my order. I told him that the appointment was for Friday and I am at work. I explained that I told the girl who called I would be off Friday, not Thursday. He apologized and said he would call back tomorrow between 1100 and 1600. I said OK.

The next day he called and said he was 15 minutes away and if I could meet him somewhere in town due to him having a hard time getting his truck down my street. I agreed to meet him at the Post Office in town. So I drove to the Post Office and waited. When he finally arrived in the biggest 18 wheeler I have ever seen, I handed him the paper work and had instructions to open and inspect the wood splitter. I could not try it since I had to meet the driver in town. Everything looked good, so I excitedly went home. I pulled in the garage, opened the box, got a big extension cord and hooked up the log splitter. I opened the vent valve like it says and started the motor. I operated the contol handle and the splitter jerked a little, but once the air was purged out, it worked well. I ran it back and forth a couple of times and was very happy. I was going to go back to bed because I was working nights, but before I went to bed, I couldn't help but run it one more time. When I tried to start the motor, all it did was hum. I said to myself, "what the hell?". So I looked everything over and tried it again. The motor did nothing but hum. I tried calling the driver back so he could return this log splitter, but he wouldn't answer his phone. So I went in the house and called the number on my shipping label which was not to the place I ordered it from, but from the Woodeze Dealer.

I told them my situation and the lady said that sometimes it is a difference in temperature and the humidity can cause this. I was doubtful, but was willing to do what they wanted me to do, which was loosening up 6 bolts where the pump hooks to the motor, then starting the motor and tightening them up as it is running. So I got my metric sockets out, loosened the 6 bolts, tried to start the motor and all it did was hum. I called the lady back and she said that I really need to loosen them up a lot. I explained to her that I was not an idiot and that the motor sounds like it is bad. But I will try it again by loosening the bolts more. The motor just hummed. She finally asked me to take the cover off the fan on the motor. I started to get mad and asked her how many people buy a brand new log splitter and have to work on it as soon as they get it? I went and took the screws off the motor fan cover, and surely there is one that is hard to get to. I pushed the button and the motor just hummed. I called her back after I put the fan cover back on and then she wanted me to push the start button and try turning the fan by hand. So I went back out, took the fan cover off again, pushed the start button and I tried spinning the fan. The motor started and I ran it about 5 minutes, shut it off and it still would not start on its own. After that happened, I called her back and she was gone for the day. I left a message and asked her if it was going to take getting my fingers cut off before they would believe me that the motor is bad. She e-mailed me the next day that She talked with her manager and they decided to have the carrier bring another splitter and pick this one up. All I needed to do was print the proper paperwork on the e-mail for the driver.

After a week, I went through the same scenario of getting the new one and putting the old one back on the truck. I got home and tried the new one and it worked. I was so excited again and couldn't wait to start splitting logs on my day off. Since the splitter was on my truck, I decided to just drive around the house and leave it on the tailgate which made a great table at the right height. I put the first log on there and split it just like on the videos. Man I didn't know splitting wood could be so much fun. Before I new it, the back of my truck was full of split wood, so I unplugged the log splitter and backed up to my house to unload the wood. I unloaded the wood and had about 6 logs at the house that needed to be split. I plugged the log splitter in and split 5 of the 6 logs. On the sixth log, as it was splitting, I heard a pop and looked down and saw that a bolt broke off the front side plate/cradle. When the bolt broke and the log split, it bent the cradle. I couldn't believe it! A brand new log splitter only 2 hrs old already bent due to a cheap Chinese bolt breaking. I was furious and went and called the lady back that I dealt with on the first log splitter. She got with her manager and they never heard of anything like that with this log splitter, but they decided to send me a new bolt and side panel/cradle. I called it a day and went inside the house.

The next day, I decided to continue to split wood and show my wife how it worked. I ordered this log splitter without her consent, so I had to show her how much it was going to help us on burning wood in the fireplace and saving us money on our electric bill. :) I split about 4 logs, and on the fifth log, just as it was splitting, I heard a POW! I shut the log splitter off to investigate what the noise was. I looked on the ground and there was a 1/2 inch nut and 2 washers on the ground. The nut on the rod that goes from the cylinder to the log pusher completely stripped off the threads. I couldn't believe it. Again I said, "What the hell?" Then I noticed that the cylinder would not go back in. After looking it over, I realized that when the nut stripped out, the side that wasn't stripped pulled the cylinder to that side and bent the cylinder. I was ready to blow a fuse and wondered why I bought this Chinese crap.

After calling the lady back again and e-mailing her pictures of what happened. The company is going to pick up this log splitter and will not be sending me a new one. They will credit my card. I either got 2 lemons or this log splitter is not made to last due to inferior Chinese metal. It worked fine for 2 hours though and I wish it would have lasted a long time. I will be looking for a log splitter that is made in America.

I am amazed how well this machine works...I've exceeded the specification of log diameter of 12.5 inch diameter and have split logs of 30 inches...so far...My only comment is that the controls are awkward....It takes one person to work the controls and another to feed the logs if you want to get volume through the unit.....otherwise this is a super splitter....THANKS FOR MAKING A GREAT PRODUCT.

1) As others have complained, the two-hand operation is somewhat awkward and tiring on my back (at least until I brought in a bench to sit on).

2) The instruction manual is not well written. This is a frequent problem with Chinese-made products. The company should have it rewritten by someone fluent in English.

3) The oil tank is not well designed. You should be able to open the cap without a special tool. Also, it appears you have to tip the log splitter on end to open the cap so that the oil doesn't spill out. Having said all that, I'm very pleased with the product and have already recommended it to several friends.

This log splitter is absolutely wonderful. I would highly recommend it to anyone. It does a mean job on all of the most horrible pieces of knotted Poplar and Oak that I've had sitting around. My only caution would be to wear safety goggles as some pieces of wood did fly back in my direction during use.
